Hello!
I am an enthusiastic gardener and amateur potato breeder. I grow food because I really enjoy cooking with produce from my garden. Potatoes are one of my favorite plants to grow, cook and eat. After discovering the exciting possibility of creating new varieties of potatoes by growing them from true seeds, I was very interested to learn all that I could on the subject. Since there was not much information online about growing potatoes from TPS, I decided to record my experiences in this blog. Hope you enjoy!

Hi Dawn: Did you get any TPS this season. Will you have any TPS for planting in early 2018. I am in NJ and using containers for growing as the soil is bad. THe containers are about 15 gallons. I am on Kenosha . Love all the varieties you have, but would like to narrow it down to early or mid season if possible. Thank you for getting back to me.

I’m sorry to report that I did not get any TPS this year. I grew Masquerade, Nicola and some of the Adirondack Red TPS tubers from last year. The Masquerade potato plants had beautiful flowers but did not produce any berries. Next year, I’m planning to grow Yukon Gold and other types that have set berries for me in the past.

Hi Dawn: Happy New Year to you. I hope that you will be growing some potatoes this year. I do have a question for you. When you put the emerging wants under the grow lights, how close were they to the grow lights. Getting a lot of conflicting information about this. I am using the T5.

Yes, I am planning to grow potatoes this year! I try to keep the lights pretty close to the emerging TPS plants. There will be about 6 inches from the lights to the top leaves of the seedlings and I will move the lights up as they grow.

Just found this site. Would love to do an exchange of material with you at some point. This year I have a 10×4 foot raised bed with about 80 Bora Valley tubers in it , which are setting a number of berries. Aren’t many other potatoes in the ‘community garden’ where they are, so I expect they’re self-fertile. Also have a number of varieties here at home and might have enough berries to swap some of them if you are interested. I look forward to hearing from you. Kindest regards and best wishes to you…

I absolutely LOVE Bora Valley, Be sure to try them raw too. Just cut them up about the size of a radish, chill, salt, and pop them in your mouth. Great on a veg. tray with or without a dip. Rose Valley is a real honey as well…really, all of the Valleys are superb.
